Rhythmic breathing returns when endogenous carbon dioxide production raises the arterial level back to normal. This relation between food intake and space of distribution supports homeostasis, which 2 It is recognized that possible exceptions to this generalization relate to specific geochemical areas with excessive environmental exposures to certain trace elements. Sometimes, however, the respiratory changes stand out separately from the rest of the neurologic defects and are more or less specific to the disease in question. With large defects, there is often herniation of the meninges and/or brain (see Chapter 17). Fractures/Dislocations - A fracture is defined as a sudden breaking of a bone, an injury in which the continuity of the tissue of the bone is broken. It usually is advisable to adjust both electrolyte and acid-base imbalances slowly, since too rapid correction often leads to overshoot or intracellular-extracellular imbalances and worsens the clinical situation. Metabolic acidosis and respiratory alkalosis are differentiated by blood biochemical analyses. There is evidence that either sodium chloride or an increase in osmolality (probably through separate cells) can activate the cerebral osmoreceptors, but it is assumed that the increase in osmotic forces is the more important stimulus (Greenleaf and Morimoto, 1996). They noted that lateral shift of the midbrain compressed the cerebral peduncle on the side opposite the tumor against the opposite tentorial edge, resulting in ipsilateral hemiparesis. Cutaneous Innervation of Limbs There is a strong relationship between the growth and rotation of the limbs and the cutaneous segmental nerve supply of the limbs. Given the issues outlined above, some have argued for a largescale, long-term trial that tests the effects of sodium reduction on clinical outcomes, including total mortality-while many have argued that such an undertaking is not feasible. Such occlusions typically produce signs that pinpoint the level of the infarction. Diffusion-weighted images indicate restricted diffusion within the abscess, which can be distinguished from the cystic areas within tumors, which represent areas of infarction. While the depicted flow and interactions are useful in understanding the disaster management process, they are neither definitive, fixed, or precise. Even in the absence of a diffuse impairment of cerebral blood flow, local increases in pressure and tissue distortion in the vicinity of a mass lesion may stretch small arteries and reduce their caliber to the point where they are no longer able to supply sufficient blood to their targets. Less common causes include dextromethorphan, meperidine, l-dopa, bromocriptine, tramadol, and lithium. The Zone of Wishful Thinking As Paul Hill and Mary Beth Celio have written (1998), every approach to school reform has a "zone of wishful thinking": a set of conditions or actions that are essential to the success of the reform, but that are not those skills and knowledge. Chronic renal failure is the most important cause, but secondary hyperparathyroidism also occurs in vitamin D deficiency, malabsorption syndromes, and pseudohypoparathyroidism. Footboards are often ineffective, though, since the children tend to push against the board, placing the ankle again in plantarflexion. Among providers, lead turnaround partners should work with schools to integrate the too-often confusing array of projects, consultants, and related support from the state and community into a coherent, achievable turnaround strategy. For example, if a significant effort is to sponsor multiple billboards, one sub-row should be 1 the profiles may not serve as a comprehensive list of all possible data sources. Treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss with transtympanic injection of steroids as single therapy: a randomized clinical study. When the delirium is severe, such patients are so restless that they cannot lie still, and their thrashing and rolling about in bed may damage a recently operated site and put additional strain on an impaired cardiovascular system. And this overstates the number of documented cases of voter fraud, because many of these cases did not lead to a criminal conviction. Monocytes are mononuclear leukocytes with a "bean-shaped" or "horseshoe-shaped" nucleus. She came to the emergency department, where she was found to have a stiff neck, left abducens palsy, and moderate leg weakness, with a sensory level at around T8 to pin. Uremia uncomplicated by hypertensive encephalopathy does not cause cerebral edema. In contrast, with liquefactive necrosis the dead cells are completely dissolved by hydrolytic enzymes. He withdrew all four extremities appropriately, deep tendon reflexes were hyperactive, and plantar responses were flexor. Geographic diversity and temporal trends of antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae in the United States. Water losses can be estimated from a variety of physiological and biophysical measurements and calculations (Adolph, 1933; Consolazio et al. For this reason, neither an Estimated Average Requirement (and thus a Recommended Dietary Allowance) nor an Adequate Intake for sulfate is established. In partial moles, only some of the villi are abnormal and fetal parts may be seen. No potentially anesthetizing amounts of either toxins or therapeutic drugs can be present; hypothermia below 308C or other physiologic abnormalities must be corrected to the extent medically possible. Laboratory findings include low plasma sodium levels (dilutional hyponatremia), low plasma osmolality, and high urine osmolality caused by disproportionate solute excretion without water. If requested for traumatic injury or post-surgical procedure, prescriber attests that based on the injury or surgical procedure performed the member requires greater than a 7 day supply* of short-acting opioids to adequately control pain. Patients with deficiencies of the middle complement components (C3 and C5) are at risk for recurrent pyogenic infections, while those lacking terminal complement components (C6, C7, or C8, but not C9) are prone to developing recurrent infections with Neisseria species. The changes may affect the sex chromosomes and/or the autosomes-chromosomes other than sex chromosomes. Fewer electrical outages or those lasting fewer days mean fewer inconveniences, safety hazards are reduced and work crews can correct the problems quicker than during a catastrophe. Postal Service has issued a new rule that forbids United States Postal Service employees from witnessing absentee ballots while on duty. Caffeine-containing beverages did not increase 24-hour urine volume in healthy, free-living men when compared with other types of beverages. The high cell turnover from the increase in the red cell mass predisposes these patients to development of hyperuricemia and symptoms of gout. Psychogenic unresponsiveness is uncommon; it was the final diagnosis in only eight of our original 500 patients (Table 11). Tooth Eruption page 450 page 451 Figure 19-15 Photomicrograph of the primordium of a lower incisor tooth. It is thought that the fibrosis is the result of fibril-forming collagens that are released by hepatic lipocytes (cells of Ito). The ultimate selection of a walker will depend on a cooperative effort between the Physical Therapist and the medical equipment supplier. Defective mineralization of osteoid causes formation of soft, easily deformed bones. The normal activity of this arousal system is linked behaviorally to the appearance of wakefulness. The nerve then runs through the cavernous sinus and superior orbital fissure to the orbit, where it divides into superior and inferior branches. The history should, to whatever extent possible, be obtained from relatives, friends, paramedics, or sometimes even the police. Alpha-ketoglutaramate: increased concentrations in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients in hepatic coma. Unless the radiographic findings are pathognomonic of hamartoma with "popcorn ball" calcifications, the lesion should be excised or at least carefully followed. Several types of dopamine antagonists can be used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy such as promethazine, prochlorperazine, and metoclopramide. These same general guidelines apply to ingestion of other alcohols as indicated below. Depending on the technology chosen to build out the web portal, a variety of options are available. Laboratory examination finds mildly elevated serum levels of liver enzymes and bilirubin. Physical activity and environmental conditions have substantial influences on water needs. Atresia of the external acoustic meatus can occur bilaterally or unilaterally and usually results from autosomal dominant inheritance. For these reasons, it is assumed that everything else being equal, two story houses may be somewhat more susceptible to wind damage than single story houses. Thus urine color has been used as an indicator of hydration status (Wakefield et al. Infiltrating lobular carcinomas also form concentric "targets" around ducts, and they have an increased frequency of being estrogen receptorpositive. Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan Volume 1 Benefits Many benefits accrue from having a Post Disaster Recovery Plan: 11 First and foremost, having a prepared plan should promote a faster and more efficient recovery. Effect of age on diagnostic usefulness of stimulated plasma renin activity and saralasin test in detection of renovascular hypertension. If the patient is deeply comatose, or if transtentorial herniation is evolving rapidly in a stuporous patient, it is necessary to treat intracranial hypertension first. It might be expected that sodium chloride loading rather than sodium bicarbonate loading would substantially expand plasma volume because sodium and chloride are both distributed as osmotic agents almost restrictively within the plasma-containing extracellular fluid. In the synthesis of collagen, vitamin C functions as a cofactor for the hydroxylation of proline and lysine and for the formation of the triple helix of tropocollagen. Unfortunately, radiologic and biochemical indicators have generally provided less accurate predictions of outcome, with some exceptions discussed below. Respiration in the early diencephalic stage of central herniation is commonly interrupted by sighs, yawns, and occasional pauses (Figure 311).

There is often some degree of hypotension and tachycardia because the hyperglycemic-induced osmotic diuresis has reduced the blood volume. Nonetheless, they may share with other chemicals the production of adverse effects at excessive exposures. There is no evidence to suggest that the sodium requirements of lactating women differ from that of nonlactating women. A static image of 500,000 counts obtained at several time points is recommended (taken immediately, 30 to 60 minutes after injection, and at 2 hours past injection time25). Garage carbon monoxide levels from sources commonly used in intentional poisoning. The arrector muscles are poorly developed in the hairs of the axilla and in certain parts of the face. Numerous eosinophils within the walls of the alveoli can be seen in patients with asthma. In a small-case series, infants exposed to water sulfate concentrations above 600 mg/ L (estimated intake about 66 mg/kg) did develop diarrhea (Chien et al. This results in critical narrowing of the airway and the increased rate of movement of air tends to further reduce airway pressure, resulting in sudden closure. Hypertension As previously described, a substantial body of evidence has documented that sodium reduction lowers blood pressure to a greater extent in hypertensive than in nonhypertensive individuals. On the fourth day after his hypoxic event he became drowsy, then lapsed into a stuporous state and then a coma. Effects of hyperbaric oxygen and N-acetylcysteine in survival of random pattern skin flaps in rats. In other words, the sex of the transmitting parent will influence expression or nonexpression of certain genes in the offspring (see Table 20-4). Rotavirus is a major cause of diarrhea in children between the ages of 6 and 24 months. They participate in the metabolism and storage of vitamin A and also secrete collagen in the normal and the fibrotic (cirrhotic) liver. The auricle is also usually severely affected and anomalies of the middle and/or internal ear are sometimes present. The urinary excretion of calcium is well documented to vary directly with that of sodium (see Table 6-19 in Chapter 6). In the absence of definitive empirical data applicable to a specific case, it is generally assumed that there will not be more than a tenfold variation in response among members of the human population. The role of hyperbaric oxygen in the surgical management of chronic refractory osteomyelitis. Insensible loss accounts for approximately 40 percent and stool for approximately 5 percent. In contrast, a blue sclera can be seen with osteogenesis imperfecta, while a yellow sclera is seen with jaundice. This results in continued and excess estrogen production without the normal postovulatory rise in progesterone levels. The treatment of a single metastasis in the cerebellum is generally surgical or, in some instances, by radiosurgery. If the mass effect is medially located, the displacement may be primarily downward, in turn pressing downward on the midbrain, although the mass may also have a substantial lateral component shifting the diencephalon in the lateral direction. My research focuses on emerging and re-emerging infections in the United States and in developing countries; vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States and in developing countries; and disease surveillance, outbreak detection, and outbreak response. These thromboemboli, most of which originate in the deep veins of the lower extremities, may embolize to the lungs. Diastolic blood pressure was positively associated with sodium excretion in 33 centers (statistically significant in 4) and negatively associated in 19 centers (statistically significant in 6). Perhaps hospital partnerships versus recruitment can serve as an analogous example for further explanation. The reason for the decrement in circulating potassium concentrations during gestation is obscure, but could relate to the mild physiologic alkalemia of gestation in which blood concentrations of hydrogen ions have been shown to decrease about 2 to 4 nmol/L (Lindheimer and Katz, 1985). Neuroblasts migrate from the alar plates of the midbrain into the tectum (roof) and aggregate to form four large groups of neurons, the paired superior and inferior colliculi. Pheochromocytomas have been called the "10% tumor" as 10% are malignant, 10% are multiple (bilateral), 10% are extraadrenal, 10% calcify, and 10% are familial. During the 7 percent dehydration experiments, six subjects discontinued after completing an average of 64 minutes. In contrast, sarcoidosis is characterized by a proliferation of activated macrophages that form granulomas. Thickening of the glomerular basement membrane caused by subepithelial immune deposits is seen in membranous glomerulonephritis. Most affected patients are awake when they come to the hospital and have a history of thirst, polyuria, anorexia, and fatigue. Therefore, fractures/ dislocations of bones can occur as a result of exceptionally minor injuries. The cervical and lumbosacral myotomes contribute to the muscles of the pectoral and pelvic girdles, respectively. Early during the illness, the outstretched dorsiflexed hands show irregular tremulousness and, frequently, asterixis. By the eighth day, participants on the lowest sodium level were in sodium balance. This is because the gene that codes for 17-hydroxylase is the same for the enzyme in the adrenal cortex and the gonads, and the deficiency is the same in both organs. Risk factors for the delayed onset of neuropsychologic sequelae following carbon monoxide poisoning. Under this flexible standard, "[i]f the burden is great, the State must provide a compelling state interest and narrow tailoring of its rule. After initial management, patients with metabolic coma who are not intubated should be kept in a semiprone Trendelenburg position and turned from side to side each hour. So far, the nature of the local stimulus to such pathologic vasodilation also has eluded investigators. A strength of these studies is their ability to provide a large contrast in sodium intake, the exposure variable. Coordinate partnerships by establishing/maintaining a steering committee for the program that will advise and guide the work with 6 months of being awarded (Partnerships: Percentage Complete: %) Activities: 3. The photomicrograph below shows an esophageal biopsy taken 10 cm above the lower esophageal sphincter. Workup reveals decreased left ventricular filling due to decreased compliance of the left ventricle. The most frequent chromosome constitution in Turner syndrome is 45, X; however, nearly 50% of these people have other karyotypes. The epidural hemorrhage pushes the brain medially, and in so doing stretches and tears pain-sensitive meninges and blood vessels at the base of the middle fossa, causing headache. Because the trochlear muscle loops through a pulley, or trochleus, it attaches behind the equator of the globe and pulls it forward rather than back. Drug Name: Treximet (sumatriptan/naproxen) Migraine Headaches Indicated for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age or older. Relevant aspects of the definition include the type of blood pressure measured (systolic, diastolic, or mean arterial pressure), the types of thresholds reported (absolute mm Hg or percent change), the classification scheme (common categories are "salt sensitive" and "salt resistant"), the thresholds applied to the classification categories, the contrast in sodium intake tested (lowest and highest levels), and the mode of sodium delivery (diet versus rapid intravenous infusion). Allow a few seconds for your child to gain his/her balance of sitting up before proceeding. Later, unequal growth of the brain between these flexures produces the pontine flexure in the opposite direction. The Hypertension Prevention Trial: Three-year effects of dietary changes on blood pressure. It is important to note that spontaneous hypoxic or hypotensive events and apnea testing may precipitate these movements. In contrast, memory B lymphocytes, which histologically look like unremarkable small lymphocytes, have surface immunoglobulin of the IgG, IgA, or IgE type. This is caused by compression atrophy of the posterior spinal sensory nerves, which produces impaired joint position sensation, ataxia, loss of pain sensation (leading to joint damage, i. These include hemangioblastomas of retina and brain (cerebellum and medulla oblongata), angiomas of kidney and liver, and renal cell carcinomas (multiple and bilateral) in 25 to 50% of cases. Ankylosing spondylitis is one type of spondyloarthropathy that lacks the rheumatoid factor found in rheumatoid arthritis. Hence, thalamic lesions that are sufficiently extensive can produce the same result as bilateral cortical injury. Their abstract thinking is defective; they cannot concentrate well and cannot easily retain new information. The hypophysial cartilage forms around the developing pituitary gland (Latin, hypophysis cerebri) and fuses to form the body of the sphenoid bone. Because the nurse was being so nice she thought she had to respond and she began to talk. Despite this view of consciousness as an ``emergent' property of hemispheric information processing, the hemispheres do require a mechanism for arriving at a singularity of thought and action. At the same time some semblance of a hierarchical structure is necessary to ensure resources are appropriately allocated to meet community priorities and to capitalize on the limited windows of opportunity provided by outside assistance organizations. Glades Tier the Glades Tier is located west of the Conservation Areas and Twenty Mile Bend and includes the Glades Communities.

An important principle of examining patients with impaired consciousness is that the condition is not caused by a lesion whose acute effects are confined to a single hemisphere. Ossification centers are present in all long bones by the 12th week (see Chapter 14). Ataxia, diplopia, behavioral changes, and alterations of consciousness are relatively common. State initiative has two broad categories for participation: Voluntary and Mandatory. As with soft tissue, the immediate inflammatory response lasts 24 to 48 hours and is characterized by the development of granulation tissue, blood clotting, and fibroblast and osteoblast proliferation. A comparison of different grading scales for predicting outcome after subarachnoid haemorrhage. Postpolio syndrome occurs more than 25 years later, with progressive weakness, decreased muscle mass, and pain. The technique is limited by the requirement of skill in the operation of the equipment and has a potentially high error rate for missing blood flow because of incorrect placement of the transducer. Focal neurologic signs usually are absent but may be prominent and include hemiparesis or hemiplegia, aphasia, or visual field defects. In some patients, the diagnosis is never established, and one must presume that some unidentified toxin or not understood metabolic abnormality was present. Use labor saving devices includes wheels for transport and electrical devices E. A 65-year-old man presents with multiple plaquelike pruritic lesions scattered over his body. If you think of questions before the visit, write them down and take them with you to the visit. However, the classic triad of fever, nuchal rigidity, and alteration of mental status was present in only 44% of patients in a large series of community-acquired meningitis. Dvl2 knockout mice have malformations of the cardiac outflow tract, abnormal somite segmentation, and neural tube defects. Congenital Glaucoma Abnormal elevation of intraocular pressure in newborn infants usually results from abnormal development of the drainage mechanism of the aqueous humor during the fetal period. This information is used for health monitoring and also required for running the Web Analytics Service. The brevity of the unconsciousness, the rapid restoration of wakefulness when the head is at position equal to or lower than the heart, and the appearance of pallor prior to and during the loss of consciousness differentiate asystolic syncope from transient vertebrobasilar insufficiency. Neither of these tests requires verbal response, and thus they are ideally suited for mechanically ventilated patients. Their color may become dusky during the oxygen desaturation that accompanies each period of apnea. Several epidemiological and clinical studies have suggested that overweight persons may be more sensitive to the effects of sodium on blood pressure (Altschul et al. When the disease is limited to the brain, it tends to affect small leptomeningeal and intracerebral blood vessels. Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell infusion and hyperbaric oxygen therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus: an open-label, randomized controlled clinical trial. Iron supplementation increases disease activity and vitamin E ameliorates the effect in rats with dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis. A biopsy of one of the lesions reveals a dermal infiltrate of atypicalappearing mononuclear cells, some of which occupy spaces within the epidermis. If the lesion extends somewhat caudally into the midpons, there may be gaze paresis toward the side of the lesion or slow vertical eye movements, called ocular bobbing, or its variants (Table 23). Hyperbaric oxygen reduces delayed immune-mediated neuropathology in experimental carbon monoxide toxicity. Decerebrate posturing in experimental animals usually results from a transecting lesion at the level between the superior and inferior colliculi. The delirium is often hyperactive and florid, usually beginning 1 or 2 days after the operation and persisting for several days (see page 283). If the lesion is small and the organism can be identified, antibiotics can treat the abscess successfully. This is identified for a specific circumstance in the hazard identification and dose-response assessment steps of the risk. Inflammation in the adjacent lung, such as with collagen vascular diseases, produces a serofibrinous exudate. Several hypotensive crises were treated promptly with infusions of pressor agents, but no pressor drugs were needed during the last 2 weeks of life. Based on policy direction adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in 1995, it is envisioned to be preserved primarily for agricultural use. And the case of Terrance Watts, a person convicted of a felony casting an absentee ballot without having his voting rights restored, would have been unlikely to have been prevented if he voted in person instead. This distinction is based on the number of mitoses that are present and the degree of atypia displayed by the neoplastic cells. Venous thrombosis associated with coma generally has a poor prognosis, whereas awake and alert patients usually do well. Condition 3 often is so brief (especially if the head falls below the level of the heart, resulting in improved cerebral blood flow) that neither subject nor observer can be sure whether full consciousness was retained. The nerve fibers of the dorsal nerve root are formed by axons derived from neural crest cells that migrate to the dorsolateral aspect of the spinal cord, where they differentiate into the cells of the spinal ganglion. Mitral stenosis with consequent pulmonary hypertension leads to right heart failure, as does any cause of pulmonary hypertension, such as emphysema (cor pulmonale). In contrast, patients with metabolic encephalopathy, particularly due to hepatic failure, may have exaggerated or very brisk oculocephalic responses. There is no meaningful guidance on what it means to "compare[]" the signature or what it means for signatures to "correspond. A second and related challenge is that for many reasons, the conditions for leadership in chronically under-performing schools are often far from ideal. Postmortem histologic sections taken from the liver of a 19-year-old female who died from an overdose of acetaminophen would most likely reveal a. On paper, the escalating consequences for under-performing schools might seem logical and appropriate. Intravenous barbiturates given with the assumption that they will remove a symptom can be hazardous, because the patient who has resolved his or her conflict by developing the conversion symptom may develop more serious psychologic disturbances should the symptom abruptly be removed. This information is then distributed to the parabrachial nucleus, which relays it to the forebrain, and to the ventrolateral medulla, where it controls cardiovascular reflexes. The former, which is also called heterozygous thal 1, is more common in Asians, while the latter, which is also called thal 2, is more common in Africans. Hyperbaric oxygen and steroid therapy for idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss. In severe cases, the opening pressure may be elevated, sometimes to very high levels. Active Children Sweat production in children is considerably less than in adults under similar climatic and activity conditions (Falk, 1998). The spinal cord in the adult usually terminates at the inferior border of the first lumbar vertebra. Follicular carcinoma Papillary carcinoma Squamous cell carcinoma Medullary carcinoma Anaplastic carcinoma Endocrine System 429 414. Surgical versus medical treatment of spontaneous posterior fossa haematomas: a cooperative study on 205 cases. Pigment formation can be observed prenatally in the epidermis of dark-skinned races; however, there is little evidence of such activity in light-skinned fetuses. This abnormality results from incomplete internalization of the intestines during fetal growth. Occasionally an aneurysm of the posterior communicating artery compresses the adjacent third nerve causing ipsilateral pupillary dilation. Net reduction in urinary sodium excretion as the result of the behavioral interventions was 35. Fatal gas embolism during transurethral incision of the bladder neck under spinal anesthesia. Rudimentary horn pregnancies are very rare; they are clinically important, however, because it is difficult to distinguish between this type of pregnancy and a tubal pregnancy (see text). Pre-hospital management of decompression illness: expert review of key principles and controversies. As breathing fails, sympathetic reflexes may cause adrenalin release, and the pupils may transiently dilate. Food Sources For some nutrients, two types of information are provided about food sources: identification of the foods that are the major contributors of the nutrients to diets in the United States and Canada and identification of the foods that contain the highest amounts of the nutrient. A hemivertebra can produce a lateral curvature of the vertebral column (scoliosis). Most patients are asymptomatic, but some develop chronic sinopulmonary infections. Complement is activated by acidosis, such as with exercise or sleep, which can produce red morning urine. Page 500 this prior authorization program is intended to ensure appropriate prescribing of Nocdurna prior to initiating therapy. The metanephric duct in both sexes forms the ureter, renal pelvis, calyces, and renal collecting tubules. As our own seven years of effective-practice research and our analysis of simi1 S It is important to recognize that to some degree, these four resources are fungible. Volume 2 is intended to serve as a reference, planning, preparation and decision support document. Misregulated splicing of isoforms involved in key cellular pathways contributes to tumor initiation and progression. The efforts of Churchill-Davidson and Boerema in the 1950s and 1960s spurred the modern scientific use of clinical hyperbaric medicine. After the cyst was drained, she recovered full awareness but possessed no memory of the ``unconscious' period. The abducens nucleus is located at the same level as the vestibular complex, and it receives inputs from the medial and superior vestibular nuclei. However, the level of response is important to the initial consideration of the depth of impairment of consciousness. On the other hand, neurons located more ventrally in the intertrigeminal zone, between the principal sensory and motor trigeminal nuclei, produce apneas, which are necessary during swallowing and in response to noxious chemical irritation of the airway. Recovery Branch Director: Among other duties, the Recovery Branch Director is charged with working with the Office of Management and Budget, Division of Emergency Management, the Executive Committee, and other County offices on facilitating the securing and coordination of federal, state and other disaster assistance. In another trial of 80 hypertensive children (6 to 9 years old) with sodium intakes of 2. Other macrophage products participate in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis by other means. The predictive value of transcutaneous oxygen tension measurement in diabetic lower extremity ulcers treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy: a retrospective analysis of 1,144 patients. Recovery after prolonged traumatic coma is well described and, unlike nontraumatic causes, unconsciousness for 1 month does not necessarily preclude significant recovery.
