There’s a baby on the way for Eric De la Cruz Hope For Hearts Foundation executive director Veronica De La Cruz.

As officially reported on today’s People.com’s celebrity baby blog:

The television news anchor is expecting her first child in March, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“I am so thrilled to be having this baby, I am extremely family oriented so this is the culmination of a lifelong dream,” De La Cruz tells PEOPLE. “After the pain and devastation of losing my brother Eric in 2009, it is a miracle to be able to add to our family in this way.”

The anchor founded the Hope for Hearts Foundation in memory of her sibling, who passed away awaiting a heart transplant after struggling to get health insurance with a pre-existing medical condition.

De La Cruz currently is a news anchor at KPIX in San Francisco. Prior to joining KPIX, De La Cruz worked as a host at MSNBC & NBC and spent over five years at CNN, where she was correspondent for American Morninganchored the Asian In American series and covered major breaking news stories. She also was a competitive figure skater for 10 years.
